PATCHES child physical therapy

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy at PATCHES focuses on improving strength, mobility, and gross motor development so children can safely explore and interact with their environment. Physical therapy sessions are play-based and engaging, using play activities to help children work on developmental milestones such as rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, walking, jumping, and safely navigating their environment.

Our Physical Therapy team also works with DME vendors such as National Seating & Mobility, Numotion, and Restore Orthotics to assist with ordering mobility and positioning equipment. This may include adaptive strollers, wheelchairs, standers, walkers, and orthotics for the lower extremities, including AFOs (Ankle-Foot Orthoses) and SMOs (Supramalleolar Orthoses), as well as knee immobilizers to assist with standing programs, stretching, and proper positioning. These supports help improve alignment, increase tolerance for standing, and promote safer mobility and participation in daily activities.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy at PATCHES focuses on helping children develop the skills needed for daily life and independence. This includes fine motor skills, sensory integration, play skills and activities of daily living such as dressing and self-feeding. For our youngest population, occupational therapists focus heavily on early developmental milestones and learning through play.

Our Occupational Therapy team also works closely with medical equipment and orthotic vendors such as National Seating & Mobility, Numotion, and Restore Orthotics to help families obtain specialized equipment. This may include activity chairs, bath chairs, medical beds, adapted car seats, safety helmets, and orthotics such as hand splints, elbow splints, and trunk supports. These supports help improve positioning, provide passive stretching, and allow children to participate more comfortably and safely in daily activities.

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy at PATCHES addresses communication, feeding, and swallowing needs for children with a variety of developmental and medical conditions.

Our speech therapists help each child find their voice, whether through verbal speech, simple switches, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices such as communication tablets to communicate their wants, needs, and feelings.

The Speech therapists also work closely with the nursing team to assist with diet orders and feeding programs and also communicate with specialists, including GI doctors, when needed to help improve a child’s feeding abilities and increase food intake safely.

Our goal in Speech Therapy is to ensure every child has a way to communicate and a safe way to eat.

PATCHES Pet Therapy

Pet Therapy

Our children benefit from regular visits with specially trained animals accompanied by a professional handler. During the summer, they also enjoy visits from a petting zoo.
