What is a PPEC?

A PPEC (Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care) facility is a state-licensed center offering daytime care for children (birth to 21 years) with chronic or complex medical needs, including transitional care from hospital to home. At PATCHES, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and therapists (respiratory, physical, occupational, speech) provide prescribed medical care. Overnight stays are not permitted.

Pediatric Alternative Treatment, Care, Housing, and Evaluation Services, INC. (PATCHES) operates two centers in Florida: one in Florida City and another in Fort Pierce.

Who is eligible for services at PATCHES?

Children eligible must have complex medical conditions needing careful care and sometimes rely on medical devices. These include respiratory, neurological, cardiac, or other physical syndromes, but exclude neurodevelopmental disorders like Autism Spectrum Disorder unless they also have a medical diagnosis which makes them eligible for admission.

How do I enroll my child?

To start the enrollment process, you can call the PATCHES office at 305-242-8122, where staff are available to assist you in English, Spanish, or Creole.
